CELEBRATE!!!
On December 1, 1945, 73 women came together to institute Court Sacred Heart #1424! On October 17, 2021, Court Sacred Heart was blessed to celebrate 75 years of sisterhood. With guidance from Jesus and Mary, Court Sacred Heart has been able to pray together, do works of charity, and support our community, school and church for all of those 75 years
The celebration on October 17th began with celebrating Mass, along with the parish at the 10am. Members of Court Sacred Heart were greeters, ushers, gift bears, lectors, musicians and eucharistic ministers. Court, State and National officers were robed and proceeded Fr. The’ and Deacon Doyle to the altar. Fr. The’ gave a blessing to all of the Catholic Daughters.
After Mass, the group made their way to Waseca Lakeside Club to continue the festivities. The room was decorated in fall colors. We were joined there by Mary Pufall, State Regent, Cathy Nelson, State Second Vice Regent, Nancy Bambenek, former State Regent and currently a National Director, Betty Hagar District Deputy and past State Regents, Lois Nelson and Ellen Huneke. There were scrapbooks for all to review, recalling all of the years of Court Sacred Heart. The original charter of Court Sacred Heart, signed by the 73 original members was displayed. Greetings that had been received from the State Board, our National Director, past State regents who could not attend and other CDA courts from around Minnesota were available for all to read. There were three door prizes, a lovely bouquet of flowers, a “basket” with throws, wine etc., and a beautiful necklace. The flowers were won by Dorothy Harguth, the basket was won by Nancy Bambenek, and the necklace was won by Barb Thursdale.
A delicious meal of egg bake, fruit and cinnamon or caramel rolls, catered by Pheasant Café, was served to the members by three men from Knights of Columbus and two of the husbands of the CDA members.
Following the meal there was a speaker, Lin Bruce, from Northfield MN. Lin is an 82-year-old woman, married, mother of four and grandmother of eight. Lin had been a massage therapist during her working years. Lin took up biking at the age of 60, starting a cross country bike ride on her 60th birthday! This changed her life. Since that time Lin has biked across the United Sates several times and actually rode her bike from Northfield to Cheyenne Wyoming twice, once for her 50th high school reunion and once for her 60th! Lin’s motto in life is “Yes I think I Can!” Lin says her rules to success are to make a commitment, get help if you need it, find humor in the hard stuff, connect with others, and stick with your commitment: recommit!! Those rules to success can be used in all aspects of our lives, including Catholic Daughters!
This was truly a very special occasion, enjoyed by all. Thank you to all who took time out of your busy schedules to attend and make this such a splendid day. May God bless Court Sacred Heart with another 75years of commitment, prayer, charitable works, and support of community, church, school, and each other!
